Genesis of Model Engines

My earlier articles on David Stanger, A. E. Jones and W. G. Jopson stimulated my curiosity regarding the full extent to which power aeromodelling was pursued during the pioneering years of the early 20th Century prior to WW1. Together with the invaluable assistance of my Aussie mate Gordon Beeby, an extensive search was undertaken for contemporary references and later documentation which would enlighten us on the subject of the development and marketing of the earliest model engines. This has allowed me (with Gordon’s very considerable help) to write a detailed account of the genesis of model engine design and manufacture during the period leading up to WW1. I think that you’ll be as surprised as we were to learn the full extent of these activities, the level of which far exceeded our previous assumptions going in!
