The nation of Brazil has produced a surprising number of model engines over the years. However, accessible information on the many model engines produced in the country has hitherto been scanty in the extreme, due primarily to language barriers.
Although in general the quality of Brazilian engines didn't quite match that from the prominent manufacturers from other countries, many of them were perfectly useable and servicable model powerplants. They included the WB and VIMO diesels as well as the SASSI glow-plug models and many others from such makers as Micromecanica CB Ltda. and Tomaz Modelismo. The best of these engines were very good indeed, serving their owners well.
Prior to the early 1990's, the importation of model engines to Brazil from other countries had been either prohibited or impracticably expensive, creating a market for domestically-produced engines in the absence of overseas competition. However, the opening-up of the Brazilian marketplace in the early 1990's released a flood of lower-priced imports onto the market, quickly putting an end to the model engine manufacturing industry in Brazil.
