Silver Swallow engines

Silver Swallow 2.47 cc - later un-numbered model - left front view

I’m working on an article about the Silver Swallow engines from China. There has been some correspondence on this blog site under other headings, but it seems that it might be helpful to create a thread specifically for those engines. Does anyone out there have any knowledge of these unexpectedly nice little engines? In particular, information regarding serial numbers and the glow-plug models would be much appreciated!

Hi Adrian, this was sold to me as a Silver Swallow 1.5. As I can’t read Chinese, I will have to take the sellers word for it! It’s ABC and ball bearing equipped.

    1. It may well be a Silver Swallow engine, Paul – my research only took me up to the end of the classic diesel era. I’m well aware that there were later Silver Swallow models, both glow and diesel, but I know nothing about them. Can anyone else help?

Are you sure that it’s a 1.5 cc engine? Could the 15 designation actually refer to a displacement of .15 cuin.? That would have been the usual latter-day practise.

      Cheers,

      Adrian

      1. It doesn’t show well on the image, but it has a decimal between the 1 and 5. It’s physically slightly smaller than an Enya .09. It’s unrun and has the feel of a quality engine. It would be great if we could get more Chinese modelers like Yuancao onto your site who could tell us more about Chinese model engine history.

  2. I have an Yin Yan/Silver Swallow 1.49 diesel! This diesel is a gold top with stamp under both lugs 053 under one one lug, 69 3 under the other. Hope my information helps you a little! You have a great article about the Silver Swallow engines, thank’s!

    1. Thanks for the information, Björn! Is your engine marked “Silver Swallow” or “Yin Yan” on the case?

      Cheers,

      Adrian
